Next Tuesday, Alex is excited to join Geoff Sobelle for a one-night master class on devising new material!
Geoff Sobelle is a physical-theater artist and magician whose performances are enchanting and profound. He is a member of Pig Iron Theater in Philadelphia, and artistic director of Rainpan 43. A self-proclaimed absurdist, Geoff is dedicated to “look[ing] for humanity where you least expect it and find[ing] grace where no one is looking.”
Alex first fell in love with Geoff’s work when he saw Geoff’s two-person clown play All Wear Bowlers (which, if you haven’t seen, you should definitely check out).
This December, Geoff is premiering his newest piece HOME at the BAM’s Next Wave Festival.
Here’s a description of the show:
Physical theater artist Geoff Sobelle (The Object Lesson, 2014 Next Wave) leads an ensemble of dancers and designers in a feat of impossible carpentry: raising a house onstage and making a home within it. Residents tumble through kitchens, beds, and baths in a spontaneous choreography of everyday life, as they move in, move out, clean up, burn down, sweep under, paint over, fence off, and move on. At once an enchanting experiment in collectivity and an affecting meditation on dwelling, HOME takes stock of all the stubborn forces that make a house a home.
Then, after HOME closes, Geoff is teaching a one-night master class sharing the techniques he used to create the show.
Sounds fun, right?!
