One of the things I find hardest about working on self-tape auditions is deciding which take to finally submit for the audition. As I’m working on a scene I try doing it a bunch of different ways, and in the end some takes are better than others, but I’m also left with a bunch of takes that feel equally good but are just… really different.
That’s how I felt about this audition where I worked on the proposal monologue from the movie High Fidelity. (Which is one of my all time favorite movies, by the way. If I was ever invited to be a guest on the podcast ‘This Movie Changed Me‘, I would talk about High Fidelity. Anyway, more on that another time.)
I narrowed it down to the two takes below, but then couldn’t really decide between them. I tied my brain into knots trying to guess which version might be closer to what the casting directors wanted to see. I asked my fiance and my managers what they thought, but depending on who I asked I got conflicting opinions. I think I ultimately submitted take two, but am glad that here I can just show you both and I don’t have to decide.
Hit me up on Twitter and let me know which take you liked best. Enjoy!
